Cleveland Shakespeare Festival

Thu Mar 6 16:10:37 PST 2014
*Ensemble Theatre and Cleveland Shakespeare Festival hold auditions for
collaborative production of "Voodoo Macbeth"*
Shakespeare's tragedy *Macbeth* dramatizes the corrosive psychological and
political effects produced when evil is chosen as the way to fulfill the
ambition for power. In 1936, Orson Welles created a historic production of
this play, casting a company of African-Americans and moving the setting
from Scotland to one that evoked Haiti in the 19th Century, under the reign
of the slave-turned-emporer Henri Christophe.
*Ensemble Theatre*, in partnership with the *Cleveland Shakespeare Festival*,
is recreating and reimagining this landmark production using a
multicultural cast, and working from the Federal Theater Project's script.
We are seeking actors of all races, ages and gender. Actors will receive a
stipend. AEA contracts will be considered for this production.
*Auditions:* Saturday, March 8 from 1:00 - 4:00pm, Monday, March 10 from
6:00-9:00pm.
*Callbacks:* Tuesday, March 11 6:00pm - 9:00pm
*Location:* Ensemble Theatre, 2843 Washington Avenue, Cleveland Heights, OH
No appointment necessary. Auditionees will be seen in the order of arrival.
Please bring a headshot and resume. Actors may choose to present a
Shakespearean monologue not exceeding two minutes, or be provided a scene
from the play to read.
Initial table readings will be held March 23-24, and full rehearsals begin
Saturday, April 26th.
The production opens May 23 and runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday at
8pm, Sunday

Ensemble Theatre and Tyson Douglas Rand, Artistic Director of Cleveland
Shakespeare Festival.
