WordStage: Shakespeare in Song

Music
was an integral part of Elizabethan life, just as it is today. Not
surprisingly, Shakespeare alludes to or includes the text of well
over one hundred songs in his works, and the emotional lives of
his characters are often expressed through the language of music.
Join us for a special performance by WordStage and revel in the
rich tapestry of Shakespeare’s words woven together with the
music of his time. Part of The Bard's Birthday Bash series.
CIM faculty members, baritone Mark Wanich and accompanist Adam Whiting will perform compositions by Henry Purcell, Charles Gounod, Gerlad Finzi, Roger Quilter and Ambroise Thomas. WordStage's producing artistic director, Tim Tavcar, will provide a narrative which places the songs in the context of the works in which they were created and by which they were inspired.
