 LandOfCleve.net Stage Review: Beck Center for the Arts Knits a 
?????? Tense and Touching Tour de Force with 'night, Mother'

Losing a loved one is difficult for anyone to endure. Losing a loved one to suicide is even more difficult. 
The survivors are always racked with guilt over how they could have prevented it from happening. 
So imagine the emotional intensity of an encounter between a mother and daughter where the 
younger woman announces ahead of time that she plans to take her own life. This is exactly the 
scenario that playwright Marsha Norman so fearlessly explores in her signature stagework, "'night, Mother." 

Director Scott Plate maintains a delicate balance between the everyday banter and the escalating danger, 
bringing viewers right into the living room as if we were all visiting neighbors eavesdropping on the interaction. 
His collaboration with talented actresses Laura Perrotta and Dorothy Silver has resulted in two tours de force. 
These sensitive, sensational stage veterans convey the comfortable camaraderie of family familiarity as it 
slowly unravels into conflicted concern, worried weariness, and ultimately utter anguish...
