Choreographer Lani Weissbach will teach a master class and present a 
short lecture on butoh, a hybrid form of dance theater that came out of 
Post WWII Japan and is now practiced worldwide. Butoh links physical and 
spiritual practices from around the globe and accounts for aging or 
differently-abled bodies as well as the energetic qualities of youth. At 
the heart of this practice is the basic material of the body and its 
changing conditions. This workshop will introduce students to this 
multifaceted movement form that aims to open, provoke and transform the 
mind and body through both energetic and meditative practices.

Lani Weissbach, MFA, RSME, RYT 500, has worked as a dancer, teacher and 
choreographer of western contemporary dance and butoh since 1989 and has 
taught yoga since 1997. She is a certified Integral Yoga® teacher and 
Eastwest Shin Somatics® practitioner, and for over 20 years, Lani has 
traveled the globe to work with master teachers of dance, yoga and 
somatics. Her work has been deeply influenced by Diego Pin?o?n, SU-EN, 
Sondra Fraleigh and Cheryl Flaharty, among others. Lani has served as an 
instructor and guest artist for over 40 colleges, universities and 
organizations geared toward health, art and education since 1993. As 
founder and artistic director of Shen & Bones Performance Group based in 
Erie, PA, she has presented dozens of performances and workshops 
throughout the region. In 2007, the company was selected for inclusion 
in the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour (PennPAT) Roster. Lani's 
passion is to help people discover that their deepest source of growing, 
learning and healing can be through the body. Lani is honored to be a 
featured artist in "Butoh: Metamorphic Dance and Global Alchemy" by 
Sondra Fraleigh (University of Pittsburgh Press.) For more information,
