Ashland Symphony Orchestra is seeking a highly motivated individual for the
position of General Manager of the Symphony. The General Manager is
responsible for the overall management and daily business related to the
Ashland Symphony Orchestra’s mission.  This multi-faceted position requires
an individual who has demonstrated leadership skills, management
experience, the ability to collaborate with artistic personnel, and can
work effectively with the board to ensure the integrity and growth of the
Symphony.


The Position is full-time. Applications will be accepted until the position
is filled. The search committee will begin scheduling interviews the week
of June 2nd.


Full Job Description


General Duties:

·       Lead the non-artistic business of the organization, including
scheduling of venues and personnel, marketing, development, financial
management, community outreach, and educational programming.

·       Work cooperatively with the Music Director and the Board of
Directors to plan and execute each concert season which usually includes
six subscription concerts, two “Young People’s” concerts and one “Summer
Pops” concert.

·       Manage the annual budget, daily cash flow, annual subscriptions and
ticket sales.

·       Oversee the financial health of the Symphony including sponsorship
solicitation, Annual Fund Campaign activities and obtaining grants for
operating and project support.

·       Direct the marketing of Symphony performances, events and
fund-raising through print, radio and other marketing strategies. Serves as
point person for questions from media representatives and patrons.

·       Manage a part-time staff which includes a Personnel Manager and
Stage Manager.

·       Establish and maintain relationships with the business community
and individual donors.

 Office Duties:

·       Serve as the administrative face of the ASO during office hours
(answering incoming phone calls, emails and greeting patrons).

·       Process financial transactions, track bank balances and make
deposits.  Provide reports to the Board Treasurer and president as
requested.

·       Oversee ticketing and subscriptions annually.

·       Process Musician contracts and payroll.

·       Serve as box office manager at all concerts.

·       Perform librarian duties.

·       Other duties associated with maintaining an office (sorting,
mailing, filing, etc).



The ASO office is open to the public Tuesday through Friday 9:00am to
12:00pm.  The GM is expected to be present in the office at those times,
although the office may be open longer and at other times.  It is expected
the GM will work an average of 35 hours per week.  During weeks when
concerts are scheduled (usually 9 per season) most of that time will be
spent dealing directly with concert-related activities including being
on-hand for all rehearsals and the concert.  For non-concert weeks,
afternoons can be used for performing other duties related to concert
preparation, grant preparation, promotion of the Symphony and making
community contacts.

*Requirements*

·       Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and skills

·       This position involves frequent travel to various locations within
Ashland county and occasional travel to other destinations outside the
county.

·       Proven arts management experience considered a plus



*Salary and Benefits*

·       $30,000 per annum based on a 12 month contract

·       Ten days of vacation with an additional week between Christmas and
New Year when the Symphony office is
