LAND OF CLEVE Review: Clague Playhouse Tees Up Laughs With "The Fox on the Fairway"

Playwright Ken Ludwig pulls out all the stops when it comes to eliciting laughs, chuckles, snickers and guffaws from viewers. He employs a host of theatrical conventions -- including awkward encounters, mistaken identities, and long-lost secrets -- to get the job done.

Director Ron Newell keeps the action fast-paced and the jokes razor-sharp. Better still, he manages to keep the motley crew onstage both believable and likeable. By the end of the second act, you'll find yourself rooting for the characters as much as the offstage tournament attendees.

The comedic timing of Newell's polished ensemble could not be better. This six-pack of seasoned veterans are? equally adept at both physical comedy and verbal repartee. The actors interact so easily with one another that each new combination of characters results in hilarious reactions, responses and revelations...
