MetroHealth Medical Center is considering sponsoring a contest to see who can write the best song (not a jingle) about the west-side hospital as it kicks off plans to transform its campus and the W. 25th Street neighborhood that surrounds it.
The winner, chosen by a panel of judges from the music community, would receive $2,500.
The hospital is trying to determine if enough people would enter to result in four or five finalists who would perform at an outdoor festival on its campus on Saturday afternoon September 13. Each finalist would be given 30 minutes to perform a short set that would conclude with their MetroHealth song.
Sound engineering, stage, drum kit, microphones, amps, an MC, tents (should it rain) and assistance setting up and tearing down between performers would be provided.
Entrants would be asked to send at least one representative to a meeting beforehand to hear the contest rules, see the campus – including the trauma center, Life Flight helipad and other unique features of the hospital – to help inform their lyrics. They’d also receive written material about the hospital and what makes it a vital part of Cleveland.
In exchange for the prize money, MetroHealth would have rights to the song and work with the winner on possible future performances.
Entrants would have about four weeks to write their songs, videotape them (smart phone videos are all they need) and submit them to the judges.
