IMPROV FOR THE THEATRE - Hot Fun In The Summertime!

This class focuses on the basics of performance improvisation. Students learn how to initiate scenes, build upon their scene partners' offers, and create scenes with a solid foundation. Topics covered include: agreement (“yes and”); active listening; using the environment; basic narrative skills; understanding stage status; and making your fellow improviser look good. There will be a Final Performance/ Demo at the end of this session.

MARC MORITZ most recently appeared as Sheftl, The Tailor in the CPH production of Yentl. Last season saw him as Sydney Redlich in the CPH production of Bell, Book, and Candle. He originated the role of Talk Show Host in the Broadway production of the Stephen Sondheim / Hal Prince Musical , Merrily We Roll Along.  Other regional acting work includes Great Lakes Theatre Festival, Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Riverside Shakespeare Co. , Porthouse Theatre, Long Wharf, Goodman, New Harmony, & Dobama. 
 
With over forty years of experience as an actor, Marc is currently a Professor of Theatre at both Kent State University and John Carroll University. He is a Master Teacher with an expertise in Improvisational Theater and has taught his Workshops throughout the country including such prestigious institutions as: Second City and TheatreSports in Chicago and AMDA and Cap 21 in New York.
 
Marc has done hundreds of long and short-term Residencies at schools and institutions of higher learning throughout the region. With a focus on Improv techniques based on the work of Viola Spolin and Keith Johnstone, he integrates this work to focus on spontaneity, teamwork , staying present, and ensemble-building. He has taught these techniques to everyone from professional actors to business leaders and physicists. 
 
Marc was the Founder/Artistic Director of Cleveland’s popular Giant Portions Improv Co. Through this company , he both performed and led numerous Improv Workshops through Giant Portions Business Theatre , known as ExecuProv , where he focused on providing speaking and presentational skills for CEO's and Business Leaders. Marc received his MFA in Acting from Kent State University.
