AMAZONS AND THEIR MEN,
A DARKLY COMEDIC LOOK AT THE ROLE OF THE ARTIST DURING WARTIME,
OPENS THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 8, AT CONVERGENCE-CONTINUUM

AMAZONS AND THEIR MEN, by Jordan Harrison, is inspired by the life and
work of Leni Riefenstahl. The Frau used to direct beautiful propaganda
films for the fascist Nazi government. Now she's trying to make a film of
her own that's simply beautiful. She casts herself in the lead role of the
Amazon queen Penthesilea, who falls in love with Achilles on the
battlefield of the Trojan War. She recruits a man from the Jewish ghetto
to play her dashing Achilles, and a gorgeous young man, a Romany gypsy, to
play Achilles’ on-camera companion and lover, Petroclus. With chariot
crashes and adoring close-ups, the movie has all the making of a
glamourous war. But things start to get complicated when the men’s
off-camera life is revealed to be an imitation of their on-camera art.
Meanwhile, the Frau’s long-suffering sister, a recurring extra in her
films whose specialty is spectacularly dying on camera, is trying to get
the Frau to wake up to the ominous goings-on in the world around them.

AMAZONS AND THEIR MEN is directed by convergence-continuum’s Artistic
Director, Clyde Simon, and features company actors Lauri Hammer as the
Frau, Clint Elston as the Man, Jack Matuszewski as the Boy and Jaclyn
Cifranic as the Extra.

This will be the fifth play by Jordan Harrison that convergence-continuum
has produced. The others: Act a Lady, Finn in the Underworld, The Museum
Play, and Kid Simple-a radio play in the flesh.

AMAZONS AND THEIR MEN opens this Fri, Aug 8 and runs Thu-Sat at 8 pm
through Aug 30 at the Liminis theater, 2438 Scranton Rd, Cleveland 44113
in the historic Tremont neighborhood. Tickets are $15 general admission,
