Kent State University at Stark announces the 2014-15 theatre season



Kent State University at Stark has announced the scheduled theatre performances for the 2014-15 academic year. The upcoming productions will be performed at the Kent State Stark Fine Arts Theatre, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township.

Tickets may be conveniently purchased online by visiting www.stark.kent.edu/theatre<http://www.stark.kent.edu/theatre>. Theatre patrons may also obtain reservations and ticket orders through the Fine Arts Theatre Box Office by calling 330-244-3348, Monday through Friday, 1-5 p.m. The opening night of each theatre production is Scholarship Night. Proceeds from those performances will benefit students in the Kent State Stark theatre and music programs.



One Slight Hitch

Set in Ohio, satirical comedian Lewis Black's production opens the door to the Coleman's house on the day their daughter is to marry a stuffy, wealthy emblem of the Reagan era. Hilarious family drama is set in motion with the unannounced arrival of the ex-boyfriend, a beatnik poet who is unaware of her engagement and came to share the enlightenment he experienced on his recent travels. Doors slam, secrets erupt, chaos ensues.



Spring Awakening

Book and lyrics by Steven Sater; Music by Duncan Sheik

February 20, 21, 27 and 28, 2015 at 8 p.m.

February 22 and March 1, 2015 at 2:30 p.m.

(American Sign Language interpretation will be provided at the March 1 performance.)

Ticket Prices: $14 adults; $10 students under 17 and senior citizens; KSU students free with current ID
Tickets will be available online and at the Fine Arts Theatre Box Office, beginning on February 9.



This Tony Award-winning rock musical tells the story of desire and confusion as teenagers' hormones collide during the journey from youth to adulthood. Through rebellious trials and tribulations, the sensuality of the characters is often denied and suppressed, leading to tragic consequences. The poignant and revealing messages in Spring Awakening are powerful, passionate and unforgettable. For mature audiences only, due to sexual content and strong (profane) language.

A genetic disease is gradually robbing Dot of her eyesight. Her relationships with her mother and friends are challenged during her struggle for independence and self-assertion. With the help of her boyfriend, best friend and a wayward priest, Dot brings the audience on a journey that discovers the kind of vision needed not only to prevail over this disease, but to thrive with spirit, humor and hope. For mature audiences only, due to sexual content and strong language.





Directing Kent State Stark's theatrical productions is Assistant Professor of Theatre and Theatre Director Brian Newberg. Laurel Seeds is the music director; Louis Williams is the scenic and lighting designer; Susan Blurton is the costume designer; and Ron Jarvis is the sound designer.
