*Will Leave Viewers Humming a Heartwarming Tune*


The Lantern Theatre has revived its popular production of *Singin’ on the
Ohio* by playwright Eric Schmiedl, and rightfully so. This tender,
touching, thoughtful and thought-provoking account of life on a canal boat
in 1845 is another example of the compelling work on which the Lantern
group has built its reputation.


Andrea Belser plays Bit with a wide-eyed enthusiasm that is infectious and
invigorating. Belser wins audience members over from the first lines of her
opening monologue to an imaginary friend. Actor-playwright Schmiedl's
portrayal of the weary water traveler moves smoothly from a gruff
curmudgeon into a much more compassionate caretaker by play's end.


Steering this venerable vessel is director William Hoffman, who balances
the initial confrontation and ultimate connection between the two
characters with dignity, grace and sensitivity…
