Kent State University at Stark Theatre announces open auditions for One Slight Hitch



Kent State University at Stark Theatre has announced open auditions for the season's fall theatrical production, One Slight Hitch by Lewis Black. Auditions are open to everyone, including students and community persons.

Set in Ohio, satirical comedian Lewis Black's production opens the door to the Coleman's house on the day their daughter is to marry a stuffy, wealthy emblem of the Reagan era. Hilarious family drama is set in motion with the unannounced arrival of the ex-boyfriend, a beatnik poet who is unaware of her engagement and came to share the enlightenment he experienced on his recent travels. Doors slam, secrets erupt, chaos ensues.



Auditions will be held on September 2 and 3 at 6 p.m. in the theatre of the Fine Arts Building, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township.



Roles are available for three men and four women. Those auditioning have the choice of working from sides (selected scene excerpts) or they may perform a prepared monologue. The director may also choose sides for people. The production will be performed on November 7-9 and 14-16 in the Kent State Stark Theatre. Rehearsals commence on September 7 and will take place five evenings a week until opening.



Scripts (and audition sides or scene excerpts used for the auditions) are available for perusal for periods up to 24 hours from the secretary (330-244-5151) of the Fine Arts Building, Monday through Friday, during business hours (8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). Audition appointments are recommended, but not required. Scripts and audition sides will also be available in the reserve area of the Stark Campus Library.



Technical production opportunities are also available, such as stage and assistant stage managers, assistants to lighting, scenic, sound and costume designers. For more information about these openings, contact Theatre Specialist Louis Williams at 330-244-3375.
