Opera Per Tutti directed by SCOTT SKIBA *
Gilbert and Sullivan's, THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, is sure to put a smile
on your face as a brilliant cast of talented singers and actors present
this most popular G&S operetta along with a full orchestra on stage. The
Chagrin Studio Orchestra conducted by Maestro, Steve Eva, team up with
the voices of Opera per Tutti directed by Scott Skiba for this
delightful production.
This production is fully staged with elaborate costuming. All of the
original dialogue will be presented. Unlike in years past, the chorus is
costumed and part of the action with a group of up and coming young
talented singers and actors.
The wacky story of a Pirate who was supposed to be a "pilot" is made
even sillier when he falls in love with the beautiful Mabel but is told
that he cannot marry her because he is actually only 5 years old as he
was born on leap year and is under contract with the Pirates until he is
21....ah what to do. Only Gilbert and Sullivan's unique blend of tongue
in cheek British humor and light hearted music could bring such a story
to life. Much of the cast from HMS Pinafore from the 2013 CVLT season is
back for this production including the lovely Maribeth Crawford as
"Mabel" and tenor Benjamin Bunsold as "Frederic", as well as the
hilarious Zachary Rusk as the Major General. Also returning is the
charming Lizzie Frey and audience favorite, Benjamin Czarnota.
This is a "30th Anniversary" production, honoring the 1984 staging of
"Pirates" on the CVLT stage. Many cast members from the 1984 production
continued to be active with CVLT, including board members Rollin DeVere
and his wife Judy, the late Paula Pike (who appeared in many Murder By
The Falls events and several main stage productions), and Robert A.
Pollock (who starred in our recent production of 'Hairspray' in addition
to 'Cannibal!' at the River Street Playhouse and Murder By The Falls).
Chagrin Valley Little Theatre is generously funded by Cuyahoga County
residents through Cuyahoga Arts and Culture and is supported by the Ohio
Arts Council.
