Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:
Individual will interpret the libretto to conceive, communicate, and deliver his or her vision of the production.  Work with a team (musical director, choreographer, stage management, and designers) to create a show true to the book and his or her own vision. Holds auditions to cast production, and works with other members of the team to develop the cast to be ready by final dress.   Candidate is ultimately responsible for bringing the piece to life on the Performing Arts Center’s Main Stage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•         Individual is ultimately responsible for the completed production.
•         Individual is required to complete BCI background check and present all required paperwork to HR before the start of auditions.
•         Holds auditions with members of the artistic staff to cast show.
•         Adheres to all codified PAC usage policies at all times when working in the PAC.
•         Establish a working timeline from read through to opening to be approved by Principal/Theater Manager.
•         Work closely with Student Assistant Director to create an ownership thru leadership of the production.
•         Delegates effectively to Production Stage Manager duties as needed.
•         Provide a constructive and positive environment while maintaining high levels of accountability.
•         Conveys his or her vision of the production to the design team and works collaboratively.
•         Maintains final control of artistic product of the show while working with a musical director and choreographer.
•         Must attend weekly or as needed production meetings.
•         Acts as a tie-breaker when artistic decisions on the production need to be made within departments.
•         Will work with stage management to create a full production calendar detailing all rehearsals and meetings.
•         Attend all rehearsals and performances and prepare detailed notes for the cast and creative and production teams.

REHEARSALS:
The production rehearsals are generally Monday-Friday from 3:00pm-5:00pm.  Weekend rehearsals may be necessary closer to production.

PRODUCTION DATES:
March 13-15, 2015.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The director oversees all artistic aspects of the production.  Ultimate responsible for approving the finished product of the show, including blocking, musical staging, choreography, musical direction, set design, lighting design, sound design, costume design, and properties design.  Works in tandem with Production Assistant and Production Stage Manager to delegate and assign tasks as needed.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Communication is critical.  Candidate must be able to communicate his or her vision of the show to actors, musicians, designers, and marketing.  The ability to delegate is a necessity.  Candidate must be able to delegate effectively to members of the team.  Patience is required, especially in a community theatre setting.  Maintaining an environment of accountability that is also fun and collaborative is a delicate balance that the ideal candidate will provide.

MANAGEMENT HIERARCHY:
Individual reports directly to the MHS Principal/PAC Theater Manager.
