More about Ms. Jeffrey:
Trisha Jeffrey recently won Best Actress for the 2013 Broadway World Chicago Awards, along with her current Jeff Award nomination, for her portrayal as “Celie” in THE COLOR PURPLE at The Mercury Theater! Trisha Jeffrey’s credits as an actress, singer, and dancer include Broadway, as well as stages across the U.S., Japan, Korea, and Germany.

On Broadway, Trisha debuted as Crystal, one of the highly acclaimed “Urchins” in the 2003 revival of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. Afterwards, she moved onto the Elvis-inspired musical, ALL SHOOK UP and then the smash hit, RENT, in which she proudly “swung” and performed the roles of Joanne, Mimi, Alexi Darling, Mrs. Cohen, and Mrs. Jefferson (a feat she repeated in 2009 with RENT: The Broadway Tour, featuring original cast members Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, and Gwen Stewart). Trisha was most recently seen as Deloris Van Cartier in the U.S. First National Tour of SISTER ACT: The Musical, where she also played a nun in the convent, plus the sassy afro-wearing/back-up dancing diva “Tina”.

Favorite performed roles include Dorothy in THE WIZ, Ti Moune in ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, and Emmie in CAROLINE, OR CHANGE, which earned her a Helen Hayes Nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

A fiery Jamaican descendant born and raised in The Bronx, Trisha realized her dream of being a performer at the age of eleven. Her passion for performing was nurtured in programs such as Co-op City’s Youth Activities Committee and the famed LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in NYC. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre, while minoring in Music and Dance at Lehman College – City University of New York. She later completed the Two Year Professional Workshop at Circle In The Square Theatre School in NYC under remarkable teachers like Jacqueline Brookes, Therese Hayden, Alan Langdon, Moni Yakim, and Mina Yakim. While Trisha developed her professional career, she also taught younger artists at the Harlem School of the Arts where she formed the first musical theatre class in its theatre program. She is a founding member of the original Classical Theatre of Harlem, where she performed and also served as Resident Choreographer for their early productions of MACBETH, LYSISTRATA, THE BLACKS, and CRAZY LOCOMOTIVE, receiving several AUDELCO Nominations for her work.
