[NEohioPAL] Heights Youth Theatre and Mercury Summerstock Are Pleased to Announce Auditions for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang October 13 & 14

Heights Youth Theatre and Mercury Summer Stock are proud to announce that
this holiday we will be presenting the regional premiere of *Chitty Chitty
Bang Bang *directed by Pierre Brault and music directed by Joanna Li.



An eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts, sets about restoring an old race
car from a scrap heap with the help of his children Jeremy and Jemima. They
soon discover the car has magical properties including the ability to float
and take flight. Trouble occurs when the evil Baron Bomburst desires the
magic car for himself. The family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and
batty Grandpa Potts to outwit the dastardly Baron and Baroness and their
villainous henchman, the Child Catcher. Filled with amazing stage spectacle
and unforgettable songs, including the Academy Award nominated title
song, *Chitty
Chitty Bang Bang *is ultimately a feel-good story about the power of family
and the bonds created to overcome any obstacle.





*AUDITIONS & REHEARSALS: *

Auditions are open to both children (ages 8-12) and adults (ages 13-76)



Auditions for *Chitty Chitty Bang Bang *will take place on:


*Monday, October 13* - 4:00-6:00 PM for Children Only
                                      6:00-8:00 PM for Adults (age 13 and
up)



*Tuesday October 14 *- 4:00-6:00 PM for Children Only
                                      6:00-8:00 PM for Adults (age 13 and
up)

*Wednesday October 15 *- Callbacks By Invite Only



Auditions will be at Wiley Middle School, 2181 Miramar
Boulevard, University Heights, Ohio 44118



Rehearsals will begin on Monday, October 27. They will take place from
5:00-9:00 PM on Monday through Friday with possible weekend rehearsals. You
will not be called every day, only when you are needed to work. Attendance
at ALL tech week rehearsals as well as all performances is mandatory.
Performances are December 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, & 21 2014. No
Saturday night performances.

*AUDITION PREPARATION*:

*Children:* Please learn the following lyrics from “Truly Scrumptious” (we
will help you practice a little before you sing alone).






*Truly Scrumptious Though we may seem presumptuous Never, never, ever go
away Our hearts beat so unruly Because we love you truly Honest Truly, we
do*



*Adults:* Please prepare two short (16-bar) musical selections of
contrasting styles in your key; bring sheet music in the correct key; an
accompanist will be provided. You may be asked to sing only one selection
as time permits. Headshots and resumes will be accepted at the audition.

*Seeking:* All roles are available. HYT and Mercury Summer Stock are
committed to non-traditional casting.  Actors will be cast solely on the
basis of talent, except in cases where age, race or physical ability is
essential to a role.

*Caractacus Potts:*(30 – 45) An eccentric inventor who creates the toot
sweet and sells the idea to Lord Scrumptious. He loves his children but is
easily distracted, leaving them up to their own devices.|

*Jeremy Potts:*(7 – 9) A boy who is very curious and imaginative. He is the
son of Potts and brother to Jemima, needs to be local to Lancaster.

*Jemima Potts:*(9 – 11) A girl who is inquisitive and creative. She is the
daughter of Potts and sister to Jeremy, needs to be local to Lancaster.

*Grandpa Potts:*(55 – 76) An elderly gentleman and more eccentric than his
son Caractacus. Kind and loving grandfather to Jeremy and Jemima.

*Truly Scrumptious:*(28 – 35) The daughter of Lord Scrumptious, and
advocate for Potts ‘toot sweet’. The Potts family finds a special place in
her caring and loving heart.

*Junkman:* (30 – 60) Junkman is the cantankerous old man who wants to take
Chitty, Chitty Bang, Bang and melt it for the metal.

*Child Catcher:* (30-60) Child Catcher is the one put in charge of
kidnapping all children in Vulgaria.

*Lord Scrumptious* (35 – 45) Lord Scrumptious is a major confection
manufacturer and Truly’s father.

*Baron* *Bomburst: (35-45) *the tyrannical ruler of Vulgaria, who acts like
a 40 year old child, and wants to steal Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to keep it
all for himself.

*Miss Philips* (13 – 45) Miss Philips is an employee of Lord Scrumptious.

*Baroness Bomburst: (35-45)*is the cruel wife of Baron Bomburst and is the
one to order the kidnapping of all Vulgarian children.

*Coggins: (35-60)*Coggins is the kind owner of garage and Chitty, Chitty
Bang, Bang.

*Toymaker: (35-60)*lives in Vulgaria and makes toy for the Baron. He hides
the Potts family and helps to free the Potts children.

*Boris:*(13 – 50) A spy working for the Baron and Baroness of Vulgaria

*Goran:* (13 – 50) A spy working for the Baron and Baroness of Vulgaria

*Ensemble:* Men, women and teens of all types. All must be able to sing and
dance and have excellent comedic timing.

*Children’s Ensemble:* We are looking for boys and girls under 5’ tall,
between the ages of 8 and 12. Children auditioning should have the
appearance of children, not young adults. Need some children who can do
acrobats, ride 1 wheel bike, juggle, ect. Show your talents!!

*Dogs* (run onstage 2-3 times)
