Look, up on the stage! It's a drama... It's a comedy... It's Cleveland Public Theatre's season opener, Spirits to Enforce!

The intensely intriguing theatre piece, written by Chicago-based playwright Mickle Maher, is orchestrated with precision by director Matthew Wright, who masterfully modulates Maher's symphonic structure of words and actions. He would not be out of place standing in front of the players, conducting the piece like a concerto maestro.


The acting by the versatile ensemble is sublime. Ursula Cataan (“The Silhouette”) is regal and radiant as the ringleader of the group, and Arif Silverman (“Ariel”) makes a compelling and charismatic commentator. Cathleen O’Malley (“Memory Lass”) and Val Kozlenko (“The Tune”) are able to drop their over-the-top alter egos long enough to share a vividly vulnerable moment of human connection.

The rest of the characters span a cross-section of society, and each performer offers a larger-than-life interpretation, includes David Bugher (as “The Pleaser”), Holly Holsinger (“The Page”), Tanera Hutz (“The Intoxicator”), Doug Kusak (“Fragrance Fellow”), Brian Pedaci (“The Untangler”), John J. Polk (“The Snow Heavy Branch”), Abigail Anika Svigelj (“The Ocean”) and Sophie Weisskoff (“The Bad Map”)...
