*The Hudson Players Kick Off 70th Season With Unnecessary Farce*

*October 26, 2014*

*Hudson, Ohio: *The Hudson Players are excited to kick off their 70th
with *Unnecessary
Farce*, a contemporary American farce by Paul Slade Smith being presented
November 7, 8, 15, 16, 22 & 23, 2014. This award winning comedy is a fast
paced farce in the tradition of *Lend Me A Tenor* (but contemporary)
and *Noises
Off* (but American). The action takes place in an economy motel room, where
an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant, while
in the room next-door, two undercover cops wait to catch the meeting on
videotape. But there's some confusion as to who's occupying which room,
who's being videotaped, who's taken the money, who's hired a hit man, and
why the accountant keeps taking off her clothes. Throw in a Scottish
gangster with some bagpipes and some slamming doors and the comedy is
non-stop. In other words: Two cops, three crooks, eight doors….go.

"Can a playwright re-invent the comic shtick of in-one-door, innuendo,
out-the-other-door?", asked Lansing's *City Pulse,* in its review of the
world premiere. "In the case of *Unnecessary Farce*, the answer is yes. Paul
Slade Smith was named one of "50 To Watch" writers of exceptional merit and
promise by The Dramatist magazine in 2007. Paul turned to writing after
fifteen years as an actor in Chicago, where his credits include the
Goodman, Steppenwolf, Chicago Shakespeare, Marriott, Drury Lane, Apple Tree
and Royal George Theatres. *Unnecessary Farce* is his second play and is
dazzlingly funny, with one bit overlapping the next. “A comic farce to be
reckoned with."

Directed by Bill Morgan, and featuring Mark Levigne, John Haller, Linda
Sekanic, Claudia Lillibridge, Dan Sekanic, Dan Williams, and Pat
Robertell-Hudson, Unnecessary Farce is a gem of the absurd; a tour de force
of farce, with a sweet love story and a positive, and happy ending.
