Lakeland Civic Theatre announces

*The Play:*

*Violet,*  will be produced in the original two act form. As a girl, Violet
was struck by an axe blade when her father was chopping wood, leaving her
with a visible scar across her face. With enough money finally saved, she’s
travelling across the 1964 Deep South towards a miracle- the healing touch
of a TV evangelist that will make her beautiful again



*Audition Information: *

*Auditions will be held on October 27, 28 and 29 between 7pm and 9pm at
Lakeland Community College in Building D. Please prepare16-32 bars of a
contemporary Broadway song in the style of the show, as well as 16-32 bars
of either a folk, country or gospel song. You need only come to one of the
audition dates. *

*YOU DO NOT NEED AN AUDITION TIME. JUST SHOW UP AND WE WILL HAVE YOU SING
and then READ. We will have a CALLBACK on Sunday, November 2 between 1pm
and 3pm. *

*ALL ROLES ARE COMPENSATED. *

*I anticipate ONE (1) EQUITY contract for this show. EQUITY AUDITIONS will
take place between 7 and 7:30pm on October 27, 28 and 29. *



*The Roles: *

                          *Leroy/Earl*


*Actor doublings include: Radio Soloist, Waiter, Leroy Evans, Mechanic, and
Bus Driver . Male, 30-50 yrs old Range: B3 - F5 *

*Father*


*A simple, widowed man who lovingly raises his daughter alone doing the
best he can with the little knowledge and resources he has to do so. Stern
but friendly, smart but uneducated. Male, 35-45 yrs old Range: A3 - F5 *

*FLICK *


*An African-American soldier; a dreamer and go-getter. He doesn’t enjoy the
army, but enjoys the respect it garners him. There is something gentle,
good about him, not to be interpreted or confused with weakness or lack of
authority. Male, 20-30 yrs old Range: C4 - E6 *

*GOSPEL SOLOIST*

*A member of the volunteer choir that sings for the Preacher’s telecast.
Sings for God with passion and power. African-American. Actor doubles as
Landlady and Woman Knitting. Female, 30-70 yrs old Range: F3 - G5 *

*MABEL*


*A talkative woman on the greyhound bus who shares stories of her many
husbands and how she loves gray eyes. Actor doubles as Music Hall Singer
and Woman With Fan. Female, 25-45 yrs old Range: A3 - G5 *

*MONTY *


*A paratrooper and Flick’s friend from basic training. Rough around the
edges. Self-consumed, but not necessarily purposefully so. Fighting his own
demons. Male, 20-30 yrs old Range: A3 - G5 *

*OLD LADY*


*A former beauty in her heyday. Staunch, tired and frustrated with life.
Actor doubles as Hotel Singer and Old Lady 2. Female, 55-65 yrs old Range:
F3 - E5 *

*PREACHER*

*An impassioned, theatrical man who preaches with all the bravado he can
muster. Once had a true healing touch but has lost it in his quest to
become a showman. Dismissive and egotistical. Actor doublings include:
Rufus, Radio Singer, and Bus Driver 4. Male, 30-40 yrs old Range: B3 - G5 *

*VIOLET *


*The title character, a young North Carolina woman whose face was scarred
in a childhood accident. She is stubborn and prickly, but filled with equal
parts hope and obsession that she may heal and be made beautiful. Female,
20-35 yrs old Range: G3 - F5 *

*VIRGIL*

*The Preacher’s assistant. Knows the smoke & mirrors of the Preacher’s show
and must begrudgingly deal with anyone who might derail it. Actor doublings
include: Billy Dean, Creepy Guy, Radio Singer, and Bus Driver 2. Male,
20-25 yrs old Range: B3 - B5 *

*YOUNG VI *

*Not quite as guarded or prickly as her older self, but still tough and
stubborn. She has a keen curiosity and the rough edges of being brought up
solely by her father. Female, 10-13 yrs old Range: A3 - E5 *

*ENSEMBLE *

*A group of men and women and perhaps a few younger folks. *

*Production and Rehearsal Dates:*

*Violet* *will open on Friday, January 30 and run through February 15,
2015. There will be nine (9) performances. Rehearsals will begin the end of
November and will run on an occasional basis based upon your schedules. We
will begin rehearsals in earnest on January 2, 2015 and run Sunday’s thru
Fridays. I will NOT waste your time. *
