GALA BENEFIT DINNER TO AID FRANCES BLACK’S CHARITY

“*Send a gift home this Christmas*” is the theme for the inaugural charity
benefit for The Rise Foundation, which will be held on December 4, 2014 the
West Side Irish American Club.

The gala dinner will highlighted by music by Cleveland’s best young Irish
traditional musicians, *The Roundabouts* and a performance by The
Brady-Campbell School of Irish Dance.

*Malachy McCourt, the noted actor, author, media personality, and humorist
will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Frances Black, the amazing Irish
songstress with multiple platinum recordings, will be the featured speaker*.

The RISE Foundation is a registered charity founded by Frances Black in
2009, focused on family members of those with addictive behavior (e.g.
alcohol, drugs, gambling) RISE (*R*ecovery *I*n a *S*afe *E*nvironment), is
dedicated to working towards helping family members to free themselves from
the stress, anxiety and worry of having a loved one with addictive behavior
and to understand the nature of addiction and the profound effects it has
on relationships.

Frances Black – well known as an Irish singer - has spoken openly about her
own recovery from addiction and the overwhelming response she received from
the public:

*“I was inundated with calls from family members, who wanted to know how to
cope with someone they love who could possibly be in addiction. People
would come up to me at signings and tell me their stories. I was very moved
by it.” *

After finding recovery Frances went back to college, despite having left
school at 15, and graduated as an addiction counselor. She then did her
training in the Rutland Centre with the renowned addiction specialist and
Clinical Director at the time, Stephen Rowen (who now co-facilitates the
The RISE Foundation’s Family Programs with Frances).

Through this experience Frances realized that more support was needed for
family members who were often extremely anxious and worried about their
loved ones in addiction. It was here that she saw the stress and heartache
that addictive behavior has on families:

*“Every day, family members feel like they are watching someone they love
slowly killing themselves. No matter how many times they may ask them to
stop, unfortunately their loved in addiction just can’t hear them. Family
members feel like they are grieving for the person they are losing to
addiction.” *

Frances felt inspired her to set-up a primary care organization that would
support family members in their feeling of powerlessness, heartache,
stress, and anxiety. So she founded The RISE Foundation in 2009.

*“The reality of addiction is that it doesn’t just destroy the person, it
destroys relationships, self-worth, and the family unit. My philosophy is
that it is important for the whole family to step into recovery, addiction
is a family disease”*

Social Entrepreneurs Ireland (SEI) awarded Frances with a prestigious
Social Entrepreneur of the Year award 2010 and 2011. The RISE Foundation
also won a Vodafone World of Difference award 2010. You can learn more at

She has twice been the recipient of the prestigious Irish Recorded Music
Association’s (IRMA) Best Irish Female Award, and was also delighted to
receive a National Entertainment ”Personality of the Year” award.

Friends of RISE – Ireland, Inc., a recently formed American based charity
aimed at helping the RISE Foundation, is sponsoring the event, explained
Jack Kilroy, its President. “Our officers, who include Bill Denihan, CEO
of the Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of
Cuyahoga County, John O’Brien Jr., publisher and author, and Marianne
Mangan, the acclaimed photographer, have each have had a chance to meet
with Frances Black and we are amazed at her compassion for the less
fortunate as well as her effective approach to providing relief for the
families of addicts.”

*Tickets to this star-studded gala are $65 or $500 for a reserved table of
eight, which includes dinner, cocktails and entertainment.* A “Chinese
raffle” and sideboards will add to the fun. The West Side Irish American
