Beck Center for the Arts Youth/Teen Theater, one of the oldest continuously running Youth/Teen Theaters in the country, will be holding auditions on November 22 & 23, 2014 for the third production of our 66th Anniversary Season:

CHICAGO

Book by Fred Ebb & Bob Fosse

Lyrics by Fred Ebb
Based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins
Direction by Jonathan Kronenberger
Musical Direction by Larry Goodpaster
Choreography by Caitlin Elizabeth Reilly
Stage Management by Nora Dlugo

The Story:
In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap...until he finds out he's been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another "Merry Murderess" Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the "American Dream": fame, fortune and acquittal. This sharp edged satire features a dazzling score. Premiering in 1975 and the hit of the 1997 Broadway season (and still running!) in a production that originated at City Center's Encore! series, Chicago won six Tony Awards including Best Revival and later the Academy Award as Best Picture of the Year.
NOTE: This show contains mature language and subject matter.
Audition/Callback dates: (open to Beck Center students ages 12 to 19*)
Saturday, November 22: 2:30 to 5:30pm & Sunday, November 23: 1:00 to 4:00pm

Starting Monday, November 3, you may sign up for a one-hour audition slot at Beck Center Customer Service or by calling 216-521-2540 x10.

*Please note: Youth/Teen Theater roles are only eligible to students who will be enrolled in our Winter/Spring 2015 semester. Actors do not need to be enrolled at the time of the auditions, however, participation in the actual production does require Beck Center enrollment. Students do not need to be specifically enrolled in a Theater class at Beck Center to qualify. Students who will be enrolled in a Winter/Spring 2015 semester class in Beck Center's Dance, Music and Visual Arts Departments are equally eligible.

Bottom line: if you are accepting a role in the show, you will need to enroll for a class prior to the start of rehearsals. Any questions, please feel free to contact Jonathan Kronenberger, Associate Director of Theater Education, at 216-521-2540 x27.

Unlike some other youth theaters, there is NO additional participation fee required beyond enrollment.
