[NEohioPAL] Mather Dance Collective Performance

MaDaCol (Mather Dance Collective) will present a fall concert of dance
works Nov. 20 and 21 at 8 pm, and Nov. 22 at 7 pm and 8:30 pm at  Mather
Dance Center.

MaDaCol, one of the university’s oldest undergraduate student
organizations, offers an important creative outlet for CWRU students
(undergraduate and graduate), faculty, staff and members of the
greater Cleveland community. The concert will feature new dance works by
second-year graduate students Andrea Alvarez, Ziying Cui, Yidi Lin and
Richard Oaxaca. An estimated fifty dancers from diverse backgrounds will
perform in the production.

Choreographed by Andrea Alvarez, *Parallel Intersections*is a display of
patterns using shapes and geometry. The work, with music by The Balanescu
Quartet, is driven by the aesthetic experience created through abstract
movement.

*Poem of “Drum*,*” *by Ziying Cui, is set to a percussion composition by
Hok-Man Yim wherein drumbeats represent spiritual guidance and the strong
and intense beat in our hearts.

Yidi Lin’s new work titled *Others* is set to music by Arvo Pärt and
explores various instances in which people are required to wait.

In a day and age when everyone is connected through social media and cell
phones, Richard Oaxaca presents a work that sets out to demonstrate that
people are actually disconnected from reality and each other. With music by
Tim Brady and through the juxtaposition of rigid and fluid movements,
*#Cell-Fi* features individuals both imprisoned by and freed from
technology.

All performances take place at Mather Dance Center located at 11201
Bellflower Road, on the Case Western Reserve University campus. All tickets
are $5 and may be purchased at Mather Dance Center prior to each
performance. Early arrival is suggested due to limited seating. No
reservations and no advance sales will be made.
