Taste of Eternity
A Western Wind Musical Shabbaton
Friday–Saturday, December 12–13, 2014

Taste of Eternity is our theme as we sing an intriguing selection of music from the Shabbatrepertoire. This Western Wind workshop will be a musical Shabbaton.
For the first time, we will weave our music making into a Shabbat experience, allowing participants to enjoy both the Western Wind workshop experience and a very special musical Shabbat. The Western Wind will perform as well as teach a number of selections from their acclaimed Taste of Eternity: A Musical Shabbat recordings. In addition, the workshop will explore settings of Jewish liturgy ranging from Rossi to Carlebach with a good dose of resident composer Elliot Z. Levine sprinkled throughout!
Western Wind workshops are unique in their focus on singing in small ensembles. In small groups, everyone makes an essential contribution. This develops your listening and blending skills, and encourages you to display and develop your unique vocal personality and share your musical insights.

About the Shabbaton
The Taste of Eternity workshop will begin with lunch on Friday and end with lunch on Saturday. On Friday afternoon, participants will be placed in an appropriate small group. Each ensemble will work with one of the Winds, preparing selections for the Friday night and Saturday morning services. A festive Shabbat dinner with the Agnon community will precede our Kaballat Shabbat service, which will be open to the community. The service will be true to the siddur (prayerbook), with each group singing the prayers they have rehearsed. After an Oneg Shabbat, participants will head home for a good night’s sleep.
Saturday morning we will begin at 9:30 with warm-ups and a rehearsal of a large group piece that everyone sings. After the small ensembles have rehearsed, we will convene as a musical prayer community once again to celebrate the Shabbat morning service. In the interest of time, we will not be doing a Musaf service and the Torah service will be in the form of a dramatic Storahtelling. As on Friday night, we will stay true to the siddur and incorporate the main components of the service. We will conclude with Shabbat lunch.
Included in the price of the workshop is a ticket for The Western Wind’s Saturday eveningChanukkah Story Concert in the Agnon auditorium at 7:00 pm. The workshop will be held in the Agnon/Siegal building, 26500 Shaker Blvd., Beachwood. The cost of the Workshop is $72; $36 for students and those over 65. (The cost of the meals is included.)
Music will be provided for participants. Those wishing to purchase the music will be able to do so. Western Wind CDs featuring Taste of Eternity: A Musical Shabbat will be available both before and after the workshop.
Beginners are welcome provided you can match pitch, carry a tune and have a basic knowledge of musical notation.
