LAND OF CLEVE REVIEW:

Blank Canvas Theatre Rocks
With Its Epic Production of
"High Fidelity"

Blank Canvas Theatre's current production of "High Fidelity" is savvy, sassy, irreverent and unpredictable. Director Patrick Ciamacco has collected the best talent in town, much like the lead character Rob collects valuable records and failed relationships. He also makes a triumphant return to the stage in the role of Barry after a string of successful directorial efforts at the venue.

Ciamacco is just one of many scene-stealers in the show. Shane Parick O'Neill is the perfect person to play the store owner Rob, a nice guy whose full of ambition and angst. He's as loyal to his employees and customers as he is to all the ex-girlfriends in his life. Pat Miller is hilarious as Dick, a co-worker who overthinks everything until the right girl distracts him from himself. Aaron Patterson does triple duty as a new-age rival who woos Rob's ex, an out-of-touch patron, and Neil Young. Stephen Berg doubles as Futon Guy and the Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen. Other colorful characters are portrayed by Matt Majewski, Tony Heffner, and Kevin Myers.

The female members of the cast prove to be just as vivid and versatile. Leslie Andrews is sweet and sensitive as Laura, Rob's former girlfriend. Kate Leigh Michalski shines as their outgoing and outspoken mutual friend Liz, as does Tasha Brandt as Rob's new love interest Marie. Maggie Adler, Jillian Mesaros, Hayden Neidhardt, Kayle McDonald and Monica Zach make up a perky and promiscuous quintet affectionately known as Rob's "Top Five." Zach also makes a lasting impression as Dick's touchingly thoughtful significant other.
