ABOUT THE PLAY: This production puts a twist on the story of The Wonderful
Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum. It follows the same basic story line with a
mixture of the musical motion picture, The Wiz; however, the foundation is
spiritually influenced by the Good News of Jesus Christ. The main
characters still have the same needs: a brain (wisdom), a heart (love),
courage (boldness), and a sense of home and belonging. The names have
changed and their journeys are different, but the path still leads to one
answer. In this case, it is the Great “I AM” who is found in the
Tabernacle, near the land of “OZ” which is Old Zion.

Rachell is a young college student, age 21, still living at home with her
parents. Her father is a pastor and her mother is active in the women’s
ministry. Rachell feels smothered by her overprotective parents, and wants
to go experience life, go out in the world, have fun, and go to parties.
She believes she is missing out on something. After falling asleep while
watching The Wiz, she’s drawn into a dream that introduces her to another
world. A world that teaches her the real meaning of ‘home’.
