FREE Event

For this extraordinary performance arts event RED Real.Edge.Dance collaborates with The Emily Program to inform and educate the community about the struggles associated with eating disorders and body image. This special event includes a performance of the powerful modern dance work “SKINS” choreographed by Artistic Director, Kelli Sanford.

“In a thoughtful mode, Kelli Sanford’s “SKINS” features jerky, torqued moves as four women- two pairs of dancers facing each other through door-sized frames- confront their bodies in mirrors. They may be facets of a fifth woman (Sanford) who opens the piece with a riveting solo, her limbs quickly curling inward and flashing out, her angularity of a piece…there are plenty of dances full of struggle, but not as many where you believe the struggle matters; here you do.”

-Janice Steinberg, Dance Critic

(RED performed “SKINS” at the International San Diego Fringe Festival July 2014 in San Diego, CA)

The dance performance is followed by a presentation by Dr. Mark Warren from The Emily Program, delivering factual information on eating disorders and how they start, and how to obtain help and achieve recovery. “SKINS” is an all ages event, FREE and open to the public.

This special performing arts event is sponsored by the Ohio Arts Council, The Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation, The Mary S. and David C. Corbin Foundation, and Akron Community Foundation.
