A hot night in Queens, New York. A boy and his father have a fight. The neighbors hear the angry words and threats. The boy leaves. Four hours later, the father is dead. The neighbors tell the police what they heard earlier and the boy is arrested and charged for murder. Since he is poor, he has appointed counsel. A jury of eight men and four women are selected at trial. Evidence is presented and it appears the boy has lousy counsel. The jury retires to deliberate. This is where Twelve Angry Jurors starts. As the door to jury room closes twelve people from twelve different backgrounds and cultures sit down to decide the fate of a young man.
What happens next......
Twelve Angry Jurors is a hybrid play which is adapted from Reginald Rose’s novel and Sherman L. Sergel’s play of the same name. It was made into a movie in 1956 starring Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, and E. G. Marshall. The play centers around the deliberations where the jurors only known by number try to decide the fate of a young man, who denies killing his father. He has several explanations but most of them sound implausible. As the deliberations continue, alliances form as tempers flare. What seemed certain at the beginning becomes vague. The play is a celebration of the American justice system as the jurors confront "reasonable doubt," "freedom of speech," "double jeopardy," "effective assistance of counsel," prejudice, and preconceived beliefs and ideas. For one day, twelve people come together to discuss the law, the facts and a man’s fate.
After that, they will never see one another again.

The Canal Fulton Players are proud to present Twelve Angry Jurors by Reginald Rose. Produced and Directed by David A. Van Gaasbeek. Assistant Director- Kayla Miller
