Teaching Artists - Dance, Tech and Theatre Arts
Student Theatre Enrichment Program
Cleveland Public Theatre is seeking Teaching Artists for its celebrated Student Theatre Enrichment Program (STEP). Teaching Artists with the following experience are welcome to apply:
* Dance instruction and choreography experience
* Technical theatre instruction and tech experience
* Theatre arts instruction and acting/directing experience
The Dance Teaching Artist position has two areas of responsibility:
1) Instruction: teach the basics of dance to teen participants of all skill levels; create and implement curriculum; collaborate with Education Director and other professional artists
2) Choreography: develop original performance material using teen participant input; choreograph 3-4 works; adapt choreography as needed to meet needs of the overall performance
The Tech Teaching Artist position has two areas of responsibility:
1) Instruction: introduce teen participants to technical theatre; teach teens how to set up and operate STEP outdoor touring package (sound system, stage platforms, set elements, etc.); create and implement curriculum; collaborate with Education Director and other professional artists
2) Tech Team Leader: manage a group of 10-14 teens; build and maintain a positive team spirit among teens; oversee teens through all aspects of touring, including: truck pack, stage and sound set-up, front-of-house duties (audience greeting, managing flow and seating in an outdoor setting) and responding to various weather conditions; manage and drive 16ft rental truck
The Theatre Arts Teaching Artist position has two areas of responsibility:
1) Instruction: teach the basics of theatre arts to teen participants of all skill levels; create and implement curriculum; collaborate with Education Director and other professional artists
2) Theatre creation: develop original performance material using theatre creation techniques (improv, physical theatre techniques, creative writing, etc.); develop original performance material using teen participant input; adapt created material as needed to meet needs of the overall performance
Program description
* STEP Rigorous training for urban youth ages 14-19 in acting, writing, movement, voice, dance, production, and touring. During the 8-week summer program, students work in collaboration with CPT artists to develop an original play or an inventive adaptation of an existing work, and then tour it to outdoor venues throughout the City of Cleveland.
Skills required
* Dance Teaching Artist: Experience in variety of dance genres/styles (modern, classical, cultural, etc.)
* Tech Teaching Artist: Experience as a theatre technician; design experience a plus
* Theatre Arts Teaching Artist: Experience as an actor or director
* Experience teaching teens and/or older youth and qualified to be a strong role model for urban youth
* Energetic, responsive, flexible, creative, attentive to details, ability to work independently
* Open to learning new techniques in the creation of original performance material
CONSIDERATIONS
* Program runs 8 weeks, 5 days per week, June 15 - Aug 9, 2015
* Afternoon and evening hours, some extended days for training and program touring
* Artists must be 25 or older and have reliable transportation and a driver's license
