            On April 9, 1865, after four yearsof bloodshed, Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate Army of NorthernVirginia, surrendered what was left of his force to Ulysses S. Grant, commanderof all Union armies, at Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia.  The surrender touched a great deal of sorrowin the South and caused a great deal of celebration in the North.  Five days later, that joy was changed tosorrow as John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Abraham Lincoln at Ford’sTheatre in Washington, DC as he was watching Our American Cousin by Tom Taylor. Lincoln died the next morning without regaining consciousness.
            The Canal Fulton Players will bepresenting this play in commemoration of the one hundred fiftieth anniversaryof the assassination.  On April 9-10, theplay will be presented at the GAR Pavilion, 1785 South Main Street, Peninsula,Ohio at 7:30 pm.  This is a dinnertheatre in which pierogis, chicken, vegetables, salad, and dessert will beserved at 6:00 pm.  The cost of admissionis $25.00 per person for the dinner and the play, and $10.00 for the play.
            On April 16-17, the play will bepresented at the SALT Box Ministries, 408 West Market Street, Canal Fulton,Ohio at 7:30 pm.  There will be no dinnertheatre for these two performances.  Costof admission is $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for seniors and children under theage of twelve.
            OurAmerican Cousin is a comedy where pratfalls and body language takes a greatdeal of the actors’ times.  Starring GeriMarken as Florence Trenchard, Matt Farkas as Asa Trenchard, Josh Rowe as LordDundreary, Zach Donahue as Harry Coyle, Ken Hutchinson as Abel Murcott, JenNeal as Mary Meredith, Lauren Landis as Mrs. Mountchessington, Madison Witte asAugusta, Laura Haines as Georgina, Mike Pfiffmer as Mr. Binnie and JohnWickens, Drew Hutchinson as Mr. Buddicombe, and David Van Gaasbeek as SirEdward Trenchard, Our American Cousin willhave the audience in stitches the whole night.
            An added dimension will be theattendance of President Abraham Lincoln, Mary Todd Lincoln, Clara Harris, MajorHenry Rathbone, John Wilkes Booth, the American Secret Service, and CongressmanThaddeus Stevens of Pennsylvania.
