*About the Open Door:*

Drawing from the rich artistic traditions within Akron, our mission is to
introduce community members to diverse forms of creative expression,
building community by crossing boundaries, enriching lives and opening the
door to the imagination.

*The Open Door *is a free monthly workshop. Led by a different master
teacher, each session will highlight a different area associated with
performance. From physical action to voice to dance, anyone can benefit
from these skills. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

 *About the Session:*

The acts of speaking and singing depend on the ability to allow the
unfettered expression of imagination, intention, and feeling through the
voice. Unfortunately, for both performers and non-performers, habitual
muscular attitudes and typical patterns of behavior often limit what they
can realize vocally. Through gentle and methodical movement lessons,
participants will learn to recognize and unblock habitual movement and
vocal patterns. They will learn to establish connections between the
impulse, or intention, to make sound, and the realization of that action in
a way that better reflects genuine individual imagination and deep feeling.
The speaker/singer truly becomes *untamed*.

Through this workshop you can:

• Change habitual behavior patterns that limit your voice

• Decrease the distance between the impulse to speak and
its physical expression

• Deepen the richness, resonance, power, and clarity of
your voice

*Participants should memorize a short monologue, poem, or text, and dress
comfortably. *

*What is the Feldenkrais Method?*

*The Feldenkrais Method*® is a technique for developing and refining your
sensory awareness, through gentle movement exercises, leading to improved
overall health and functioning. It is for people of all ages and abilities.
Feldenkrais lessons can result in surprising, even astonishing, changes in
function that come about in the process of learning how you move. In the
words of Moshe Feldenkrais, the developer of the *Feldenkrais Method*, “If
you know what you’re doing, you can do what you want.”
