Beck Center for the Arts presents ROOTS MUSIC CAMP with Paul Kovac
Although dating as far back as the turn of the 20th century and earlier, American Roots Music has seen a surge in popularity in recent years thanks to films such as Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, and musicians such as the Avett Brothers and Chris Thiele. Designed to expose instrumentalists and vocalists to the roots of American music, this camp will teach students melodies, song forms, performance techniques, and improvisation based on genres such as traditional, old-timey, Pre-War blues, Appalachian folk, bluegrass, gospel, and many more.
Students will get the chance to learn from, and create music with, nationally-recognized roots music performer and educator, Paul Kovac. Although recommended for guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, bass, vocals, all instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome. Families and friends are invited to attend an informal concert on Friday, July 17 at 3:00 pm, where students will share the music they learned at camp
