Much like the titular fry cakes, Nathan Motta's direction is superior. His
staging has a rhythmic ebb and flow that keeps characters coming in and out
of the shop, gradually building to the play's final compelling
confrontation.

Motta has also selected just the right combination of actors to fill up his
eclectic ensemble. Joel Hammer is effectively understated in the
central role of Arthur, a man who slowly reconnects with his feelings and
well as the people who care about him. Robert Hunter is fascinatingly
frenetic as the new assistant, a young man whose big dreams may not be able
to compensate for his big problems.

Amy Fritsche and Lashawn Little are an amiable pair of concerned  cops, and
John Busser and Dean Coutris raise the stakes as two very unsavory
associates of Franco. Mary Ann Nottage and Steve Vogel both make an
indelible impression during their time onstage. Finally, Allan Byrne as
Arthur's opinionated and industrious neighbor offers a powerful portrayal
of a man who is used to making the best of any situation...
