Beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein Musical 'Oklahoma!' to Close Weathervane Playhouse's 80th Season

Weathervane Playhouse, Akron's hometown theater, concludes the celebration of its 80th season with the beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Oklahoma! - presented live on stage from June 4 to 28, 2015.

A groundbreaking masterpiece that launched the golden age of the Broadway musical, Oklahoma! spins the tale of the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys in the Indian territory of Oklahoma at the turn of the twentieth century. This provides a colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story.

Considered a revolutionary show in its 1943 debut, Oklahoma! challenged theatrical boundaries, traditions and conventions - and forged a new musical-theater template that endures up to today.

Featuring such unforgettable songs as "The Surrey with the Fringe on Top," "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'," "Kansas City," "I Can't Say No" and the show's stirring title song, Oklahoma! celebrates young love, the enduring spirit of American optimism and the triumph of hope over pessimism.

Weathervane's Oklahoma! cast features Meg Hopp as Aunt Eller, Jonathan Gruich as Curly, Abbey Kane as Laurey, Tiffany Cagwin as Ado Annie, Jay Sigler as Will Parker, Jason Calvert as Jud Fry and Jonathan Merechant as Ali Hakim.

The production is directed and choreographed by Sarah Elaine Bailey. Musical direction is by Sharon Dobbins Alberson and the dream-ballet choreographer is Marissa Montigney-Leenaarts. Weathervane Playhouse's Oklahoma! is proudly sponsored by FirstEnergy.

PERFORMANCE INFORMATION

Oklahoma! runs June 4 and 28, 2015. Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.

TICKET INFORMATION

The low-cost Preview performance is Thursday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets this night only are $20 for adults and seniors; tickets for children and college students this night only are $10.

For all performances after June 4, tickets are $26 for adults, $22 for seniors on Thursdays and Sundays only, $13 for college students and $10 for children.
