The most dramatic week in Irish history comes alive on stage this weekend
with "Easter 1916 Through Song and Story," a one-act musical depicting the
events in Dublin 100 years ago when Irish rebels, including poets and
scholars, staged the Easter RIsing, while declaring Irish independence from
British rule.
The show, written, performed, and directed by Cleveland area artists, was
conceived and developed in honor of the centenary of the watershed events
in Irish history.
The original script, written by Jack Kilroy of Avon Lake, OH, features four
musicians (John Cundiff, guitar & vocals; Tish Jones, vocals, Mary Agnes
Kennedy, guitar & vocals, and Kathy Siath, vocals) performing Irish ballads
that tell the story of the Easter Rising with and interwoven dramatic
narrative performed by two actors. Patrick W. Lafferty portrays Irish
leader Patrick Pearse, and Patrick D. Kennedy, Jr. portrays a young Irish
student recalling the amazing events of the rebellious week.
Admission to the festival includes admission to the performance taking
place at 6pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday in the "Abbey Theatre" building.
