The Parma Symphony Orchestra will perform aconcert on Sunday, October 18, 2015at 3:00 PM at Valley Forge High School Auditorium located at 9999Independence Boulevard in Parma Heights. 

Music Director Dr.Randolph P. Laycock will feature Rachel Brandwein, Harp and JudyNaujoks Moore, flute performing:  Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto in C, K299.  Also: Festival Overture on “the American National Air” byBuck, and Grieg’s SymphonicDances Op 64.The orchestra, inits 47th season consists of 75members of all walks of life from all over the entire Greater Clevelandarea.  They meet weekly for rehearsals and present at least four concertsannually.

General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniorcitizens.  Family passes of $20 are available for families of up to 2adults and their children.  All tickets are available at the doorbeginning at 2:30 PM.

 Rachel Brandwein is the winner of the 2014 Mu Phi EpsilonInternational SoloCompetition. Sheis the Mu Phi Epsilon Concert Artist 2014-2016 and is performing andgiving outreachclasses throughout the United States.Rachel is onfaculty at Luther College, College of Saint Benedict & Saint John’sUniversity, andat Mount Calvary Academy of Music. Among her performance andcompositionaccomplishments are first prizes and grants in numerous regional andnationalcompetitions sponsored by Mu Phi Epsilon, American String TeachersAssociation, andthe American Harp Society.A featuredsoloist at the Ninth World Harp Congress in Dublin, Ireland, Rachel alsotoured Chinawith the Juilliard Orchestra. Since moving from New York to Minneapolis inthe fall of2012, she has performed several times with the Minnesota Orchestra,VocalEssence,the National Lutheran Choir, as well as professional ensembles aroundthe Twin Cities.In the fall of 2013 she embarked on a nine state, fifteen concert tourwith TrioMatisse (flute, cello, harp) as part of the Allied Concert Services Tours andiscontinuing toperform with the trio. She enjoys concertizing with original and arrangedworks with hertrombone partner, Dr. David Peterson, as the Branderson Duo. They were awardeda grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board and in 2016 will premiere acommissioned work by Dr. Paul Salerni as well as complete a residency at LehighUniversity. Rachel has recently published her compositions on her website:  www.rachelbrandwein.com.By invitation from the American Harp Society, she performed a full recital ofher works at the 2014 National Conference in New Orleans. Rachel has presentedher works on the Composer’s Concerts at The Juilliard School and on Stony BrookUniversity’s Composer Concert Recital Series. She was commissioned through agrant by the American Harp Society to write a work for Apple Orange Pair, aprofessional harp and horn duo. They premiered it at the 2015 NationalConference. Her compositions have been performed throughout the country, suchas at the University of Michigan, University of Indiana, University ofMinnesota, WesternIllinoisUniversity, Kansas State University, Sacramento State University, and atInterlochen Center for the Arts where she serves on the harp faculty during thesummer camp programs.Rachel earneddegrees from the University of Michigan (BM), The Juilliard School (MM), andStony Brook University (DMA). She also studied harp and French for one year inParis and Lyon, France. After performing at her doctoral commencement, she wasawarded the prestigious Ackerman Award for Excellence in Graduate Studies forhigh Accomplishment in performance and pedagogy. Rachel's goal as a teacher isto help her students appreciate and fulfill their artistic potential withconfidence, creativity, and dedication.
Judy NaujoksMoore has been a member of the ParmaSymphony Orchestra for over 40 years. After graduating from Parma Senior HighSchool, she attended Kent State University, where she studied with fluteprofessor Raymond DeMattia. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in MusicEducation and a Master's Degree in the Art of Teaching. Judy taughtGeneral Music for 35 years in several different schools in theCleveland Metropolitan School District. She retired from Newton D. BakerSchool of Arts where she used her certifications in the Orff-Schulwerk processof teaching music. She also recently retired from her choir director positionat St. Peter United Church of Christ in Seven Hills. Judy enjoys playing in thesymphony with her daughter Alice, a harpist, and son-in-law Darren, apercussionist. She is proud the musical tradition in her family continues withher granddaughter Sydney, who began studying piano two years ago.
