‘The Investigation’ by Cesear’s Forum reveals little

Peter Weiss’ “The Investigation” – a documentary drama based on actual testimony given during the Frankfurt investigation into the Auschwitz death camp – has the potential to be an immensely moving and genuinely unsettling piece of theater.  



The material is certainly graphic and important enough.  



But in the current staging of this play by Cesear’s Forum, in partnership with the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and Violins of Hope, the work is lifeless. 



This is because director Greg Cesear has little faith that the words can speak for themselves and offers his assistance to make the play – a dramatic rendering of court transcripts – more inventive.
