This Thursday, December 31, 2015 (New Year's Eve), the Cleveland Chinese Music Ensemble 克里夫蘭民族樂團 will perform a 90-minute-long set for the First Night Akron 2016 festival.
The performance will take place in the Doric Room, on the fourth floor of Greystone Hall, a majestic 98-year-old building located at 103 South High Street in downtown Akron, Ohio.
The ensemble's traditional instruments will include dizi and xiao (bamboo flutes), sheng (mouth organ), erhu (fiddle), sihu (4-stringed fiddle), pipa (pear-shaped lute), yueqin (moon lute), zhongruan (round-bodied lute), gongs, drums, and other percussion, and vocals.
The performance will also feature two special guests:
● Pipa/zhongruan soloist Yang Jin of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvaniaand● Vocalist Sandra Emmeline (of the Akron-based band Sancat)
The program will include the following selections (with an audience sing-along for the finale):

Admission to First Night Akron costs $10, and children under 10 are free. An admission button allows attendees access to all First Night venues and activities. Free parking is available in all city-owned decks and lots in downtown Akron after 3 p.m.

First Night Akron is a family-friendly, alcohol-free celebration of the new year through the arts. It is a major visual and performing arts festival created by and for the community to welcome the new year in downtown Akron on December 31st of each year. Firt Night Akron is in its 20th year.
The First Night Akron 2016 venues include the Akron Art Museum, Akron Civic Theatre, Akron-Summit County Public Library, Greystone Hall, John S. Knight Center, Lock 3, Mainstage on Main Street, The Nightlight, Summit Artspace, and Zion Lutheran Church. There are a few activities that take place outdoors, like the fireworks display, the Goodyear Ice Sculpture Gardens, and ice carvings and visual displays, but the majority of the entertainment takes place indoors. The new FirstMerit Bank laser light spectacular countdown show will take place inside the John S. Knight Center in the upper exhibit hall at 9 p.m., and the fireworks display will take place on South Main Street in front of Lock 3 at midnight.
