*Ensemble Theatre presents the Panorama of African American Theatre: *
*Part V: ‘The Content of Character’*

The 5th installment of Ensemble's award winning Panorama series presents *Slow
Dance on the Killing Ground *by William Hanley & *Golden Leaf Rag Time
Blues* by Charles Smith. Both scripts involve anyoung African American male
youth as a pivotal character. Performances, Talk-backs, Master classes,
Writing Workshops, and outreach activities will engage residents in a
dialogue about race relations in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County communities,
and how our city relates to this issue on a national stage.

*Ensemble Theatre is asking local playwrights/artists/poets to submit
written works inspired by/or in line with themes present in **'GOLDEN LEAF
RAGTIME BLUES' and "SLOW DANCE ON THE KILLING GROUND"*

Some themes present are friendship, prejudice, self- identification,
discrimination and police brutality. Some questions raised are, *what is
the content of one’s character?*; *what are the lasting effects of
prejudice on a community*? Why is it important that we continue to create a
conversation within our community to address these issues?

Both productions run concurrently, opening Friday, February 5th and running
through Sunday, February 28th. Performances are Fridays, Saturdays at 8PM,
Sunday Matinee at 2PM.

*Plays/works selected for readings will be presented on weekday evenings
throughout the run of both shows in February, as well as during the Colombi
New Plays Festival in March. *

Dates for the readings of selected plays/works will be decided by Ensemble
staff and announced via Ensemble’s website and NEOhioPAL.

*One playwright/artist can submit up to three (3) works; **max length is 30
