Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater, one of the oldest continuously running Youth Theaters in the country, is holding auditions on September 19 & 20, 2016 for our final production of our 67th Anniversary Season:

BIG, THE MUSICAL

Book by John Weidman
Music by David Shire
Lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr.
Based on the Twentieth Century Fox film Big, written by Gary Ross and Anne Spielberg
Directed by Russel Stich
Musical Direction by Matthew Dolan
Choreography by Rebecca Frick

The Story:
The classic 1987 motion picture fantasy bursts onto the stage in this unforgettable theatrical experience. Josh Baskin is sick of being an awkward kid. At a carnival, he makes a wish to the Zoltar machine to become "big". To his shock, his wish is granted. After an understandably awkward beginning, Josh is forced to do "adult" things like getting a job and a girlfriend. In the end he discovers there's much more to being an adult than he's bargained for, and learns we must all grow up at our own pace, in our own time.

*Please note: Youth Theater roles are only eligible to students who will be enrolled in our Winter/Spring 2016 semester. Actors do not necessarily need to be enrolled at the time of the auditions, however, participation in the actual production does require Beck Center enrollment. Students do not need to be specifically enrolled in a Theater class at Beck Center to qualify. Students who will be enrolled in a Winter/Spring 2016 semester class in Beck Center's Dance, Music and Visual Arts Departments are equally eligible.

Bottom line: if you are accepting a role in the show, you will need to enroll prior to the start of rehearsals. However, classes are already filling up! Any questions, please feel free to contact Jonathan Kronenberger, Associate Director of Theater Education, at 216-521-2540 x27.
