Nominations Opening Soon: 2016 ICWP 50/50 Applause Award for Theatre Gender Parity Around the Globe

(The World) – The International Centre for Women Playwrights (ICWP) is proud to sponsor the fifth annual 50/50 Applause Award, celebrating theatres which achieved gender parity among their produced playwrights in a given theatre season. The nomination window for the 2015/16 season is about to open!

Nominations for the 2015/16 theatre season will be offered via web form May 2–20, 2016. Anyone may participate. The public is encouraged to nominate any theatre which meets the criteria for the award, and artistic directors and theatre employees may self-nominate. Please share this information with your theatre friends around the world! ABOUT ICWP

Established in 1989, The International Centre for Women Playwrights is an organization that exists to bring attention to the achievements of women playwrights and to provide a place for peer support, knowledge-sharing, and play publication. It is the goal of ICWP to enable women playwrights to have their plays professionally produced on the major stages of world theatres and to receive just recompense for their efforts. When the numbers are no longer tragically skewed against women, we will no longer be needed. We work for that day!

Playwright, composer, lyricist, director, Broadway actor/singer, poet, and all-round energetic sort, D.S. Magid is a member of Cleveland Play House Playwrights’ Unit and the Dramatists Guild, and is a Cleveland Public Theatre Artist. She co-founded ICWP's 50/50 Applause Award for gender parity in theater while serving on their Board of Directors. Magid's works have been seen worldwide and comprise long, short, drama, comedy, musical, SciFi, rock opera, chamber opera, and “Richard Wagner’s Entire Ring Cycle in Ten Minutes with Sock Puppets.” Her theater musings can be found at miseentheatre.wordpress.com <http://miseentheatre.wordpress.com/>.
