The Canal Fulton Players are proud to present the original murder mystery comedy, Death on the Canal, by David Van Gaasbeek, who is also producing the play, on June 18-19, 25-26 at 6:00 pm at the Canalways Center, the Canal Fulton Park towpath, Lock 4 Park, and the St. Helena III. This play is presented in a dinner theatre boat ride format in which the audience eats a fine meal prepared by the Canal Grille Restaurant and then enjoys the play which is performed on the walkways of the Canalways Center the Canal Fulton Park towpath, Lock IV Park, and the St. Helena III. The play is performed as the boat sails down the canal, pulled by our two good friends, Dan and Willie.
The play starts as relatives and employee...s of Mason Robinson, an eccentric but wealthy inventor in the automotive and electronics industries, gather for the will reading after Mason’s untimely and rather tragic death. The relatives are a motley crew of sinners and the employees are not much better. One can see why they are not very well liked by their now deceased relative or employer. After all are seated by the head housekeeper for the will reading, the attorney walks in to the room only to discover that there is no will. When he presses the head housekeeper for answers, she states that she is to do only one thing. When she does it, much to the shock of all, Mason Robinson appears as a hologram. Full of venom and vitriol, he tells everyone why they are there and why he will get his revenge on them. There is no will because he has hidden the entire estate’s assets on a canal boat in Canal Fulton, Ohio. Now, it is up to the relatives, the attorney and the employees to discover the clues that he has left to determine the location and the identity of the treasure as they sail down the canal. Sounds simple, right? Not really. The major problem is that Mason is constantly taunting and ridiculing them as they make their search. Fearful of being killed, all of them are determined to find the treasure and escape the horrible deaths they think that he has planned.
Starring as Mason Robinson is David Van Gaasbeek, the playwright. He is supported by Geri Marken as Ivy Robinson-Weaver, Mason’s scattered brained niece, Jennifer Neal as Amanda Robinson-Miller, his other scattered brained niece, Charles Bonakoski as Allan Weaver, Ivy’s lazy and meek husband, Gabriel Chuna as Morris Miller, Amanda’s sleazy husband who is a movie producer, Melanie Snier as Lesly Johnson, Morris’ new prodigy and meal ticket, Sean Wirfel as Isadore Manuel, Mason’s dishonest pool boy, Madison Witte as Violet Buford, Mason’s loyal and efficient personal secretary, Zach Donahue as Ephram Blair, the attorney who is called to read the non-existent will, and Sharon Nolan as Victoria, the loyal housekeeper in the tradition of Downton Abbey.
The play will be performed on June 18-19, 25-26 at 6:00 pm with the dinner starting the program at 6:00 pm. The location is at the Canalways Center, 125 Tuscarawas Street West, Canal Fulton, Ohio. Tickets for the dinner, boat ride, and performance can be purchased by calling 330-854-6835. The total cost is $37.00.
