 Auditions for ClaguePlayhouse’s first production for their 2016-2017 season will be held at
CLAGUE PLAYHOUSE, 1371 Clague Road, Westlake, OH 44145 on June 28th & 29th at 7:30 pmWhat I Did Last Summer by A. R. Gurney
Directed by Ron Newell

2 Males – 4 Females – As this is a memory play, the characters are age specificbut may be played by creative actors of a diverse variety of ages at the director’sdiscretion.

A warm-hearted coming of age story set in a posh vacation colony on the shoresof Lake Erie in 1945. The story centers around Charlie, a rebellious fourteenyear old, during the summer before he’s to be sent to a boarding school. Afterlanding a summer job as a handy man for local artist, Anna, Charlie findshimself caught between the clashing philosophies of his new free-spirited bossand those of his very conservative mother.

Show dates: Sept. 23rd through Oct. 16th, 2016
Rehearsals to be determined based on actor availability but may begin as earlyas August 1st.
CLAGUE PLAYHOUSE auditions begin at 7:30 pm. No appointmentis required. Headshots and resumes are always welcome and mosthelpful. Auditionees will be asked to cold read from the script. You maybe asked to stay to read additional scenes. There will be callbacks only ifnecessary. Clague Playhouse is a non-profit 501c3 community theater. Actorsreceive a modest stipend for their involvement.
A limited number of perusal scripts are available atthe Clague Playhouse Box Office for a $10 refundable deposit.  BoxOffice hours are Wed.-Sat. from 1-6 PM, 440-331-0403.

Characters:Charlie (age 14 - within the story) While his father isfighting in the Pacific, Charlie is summering with his mother and sister beforeheading for boarding school in the fall. Having planned on loafing &playing with friends, his need for spending money has forced him to take asummer job that changes his life.
Ted  (age 16 – withinthe story) A local boy & Charlie’s friend - they swim, play “war,” argue,tease & fight – and of course talk about life as they see it – which mustcertainly include girls.
Grace (age late 30s-early 40s) Charlie’s Mother. Trying tokeep the children occupied while her husband is at war, she is of theconservative “upper crust” and trying her best in her husband’s absence.
Elsie (age 19 – within the story) Charlie’s older sister.Entitled, irritated and a classic bossy big sister.
Bonny (age 14 – within the story) A friend of Charlie &Ted, she babysits, teases & likes that boys like her.
Anna Trumbull (mature but ageless) An artist and teacher,Anna was once a member of the “upper crust” but life experience has turned heraway from that sector of society. She sees a kindred spirit in Charlie so shehires him and encourages him to discover and express himself outside ofsociety’s confines. She is appallingly honest and very direct about nearlyeverything.
