For the final concert of the "Around the World" Music Series' inaugural season, we are delighted to announce the long-awaited return to Kent of one of Northeast Ohio's favorite performers: Brazilian singer/songwriter/guitarist Luca Mundaca. With tasteful guitar accompaniment and a voice as soft and sweet as a warm summer breeze, she will treat listeners to an evening of exquisite and melodious songs of Brazil, including classic standards as well as originals. Lyrics are in Portuguese and the music is inspired by bossa nova, jazz, and samba. Her show will be a duo set, with guitarist Brian Kozak.

About the artist:

Luca Mundaca grew up in a small town just south of São Paulo, an upbringing that gave her the chance to experience, absorb, and ultimately put her own spin on traditional bossa nova and jazz. Today, the Brazilian musician is a talented singer-songwriter, guitarist, composer, and arranger; her work has been featured in many TV shows and movies, as well as two Putumayo compilation CDs: Brazilian Lounge and Women of the World.

After several years in New York City, she settled in Cleveland, where she is a regular performer at such venues as Nighttown and the Music Box Supper Club, giving sold-out performances for the latter's Bossa Nova Night each month. Her last performance in Kent was in 2010, appearing as part of the 44th Kent State Folk Festival's "An Evening of Brazilian Music and Dance" showcase concert.

The North Water Street Gallery is conveniently located just a block north of the intersection of Main and Water Streets in Kent, Ohio, with free street parking on both sides of the street. Seating is limited, so arrive early for the best seats.

The "Around the World" Music Series is a new concert series presenting outstanding musicians from diverse cultures in an intimate setting.

Concerts are held approximately every other month in the new theater space of the North Water Street Gallery, conveniently located in downtown Kent, Ohio.

The series is an initiative of Standing Rock Cultural Arts, and is curated by ethnomusicologist David Badagnani.
