Call for Teaching Artists – ArtWorks Fall 2016

The Center for Arts-Inspired Learning seeks applications for teaching artists who wish to participate in the Spring 2016 ArtWorks program. Deadline to apply: August 4, 2016

ArtWorks is the only multi-disciplinary, arts-based job training program for Northeast Ohio high school students, designed to provide instruction in the arts while helping teens develop workplace skills and gain knowledge of post-secondary options.
Through participation in ArtWorks and under the guidance of professional teaching artists, teens create visual and performance art, learn how to work cooperatively, professionally, and responsibly, and earn a wage. Selected teaching artists will work with diverse populations of young people with a broad range of artistic experience. This work will entail performing and exhibiting works of art, developing community partnerships to provide real-world project experiences, and guiding apprentices in the development of a professional portfolio.

Resumes and Cover Letters from artists of all disciplines will be considered, including but not limited to: Theater, Music and/or Vocal Performance, Dance, Filmmaking, Recording Arts, Video Game/Web Design, Visual Arts (all forms), Poetry/Literary Arts and Fashion/Costume Design. Proposals that integrate technology, highlight community revitalization, or interdisciplinary practices are encouraged.

WHERE & WHEN WILL ARTWORKS TAKE PLACE?

ArtWorks will take place at the Tri-C Metro Campus (2900 Community College Avenue – Cleveland, OH 44115). The Fall 2016 session will run from Tuesday, September 27th to Thursday, December 15th. Weekly, ArtWorks will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-7:30 pm. ArtWorks teaching artists are required to work pre-program (August/September 2016) events for interviews and registration of apprentices as well as orientation and planning.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF TEACHING ARTISTS?

Teaching artists will:

1) Complete initial proposals, weekly work-plans, and participate in planning sessions to create arts-based job-training curriculum. Curriculum will reflect the outcomes of the program, including workforce skills, artistic/personal development, and post-secondary preparedness.

3) Guide apprentices to document work and create professional portfolios and resumes.

4) Conduct and complete assessments, evaluations, and interviews of apprentices.

5) Mentor apprentices, create a supportive environment for collaboration, and facilitate the development of a diverse peer network.

6) Plan and implement a culminating exhibit or performance in collaboration with other ArtWorks groups, in addition to other public performances.

7) Keep apprentices engaged, focused, and productive during workday.

8) Monitor and support your co-op’s adherence to the ArtWorks policies and procedures.
