AUDITIONS – Independence Community Theatre for
Company

Audition Dates:
Monday, August 29th from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Tuesday, August 30th from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
CALLBACKS: * Callbacks, if required, will be September 3rd from 1:00pm to
4:00pm
Please sign up for an audition date. (You will receive audition materials
when you sign up.)

Location: Independence Community Theatre (6652 Brecksville Rd, Independence
OH.)

Please prepare the following:
*Please prepare 32 bars of a song in the style of the show (Sondheim,
William Finn, Jason Robert Brown, etc.) bring sheet music in the
appropriate key (accompanist will be provided).
*Prepare a joke to tell (So we can hear you talk a bit)
* All those auditioning will be taught one or more musical cuts from the
show and may be asked to read from the script. (When you sign up to
audition you will be emailed the sides.)
*Bring a headshot and resume
*Please bring a list of conflict dates you may have during the rehearsal
period (9/25/16-11/4/16).

Rehearsals: Rehearsals will start September 26th.
Rehearsals will be held based on actor availability. 4-5 days a week
expected.

Performance Dates for Company: November 4th- November 19th
Show dates: November 4, 5, 11, 12, 13*, 18, and 19, 2016
Friday and Saturday at 8:00, Sunday at 2:00*

Show Synopsis: Robert attempts to understand the pros and cons of marriage
from his diverse and frequently hilarious friends,, and begins to make
sense of his own persistent bachelorhood. Company, Stephen Sondheim’s
groundbreaking modern musical, is a mature, intelligent, and wildly funny
look at relationships, vulnerability, and “being alive.”

Cast- 6 Men, 8 Women, 18 years and older. (Non-equity)
* The age range for each character is flexible and all ethnicities will be
considered.

Robert- The story's protagonist, he is a keen observer who appears happy
but holds pain in his heart. He is the only one of his friends still
single. Terrified of marriage and fears a lifelong loneliness.
Age: 25 to 35
Vocal range: Baritone

Sarah-Harry's hyper critical wife. She is an avid learner of karate and
tends to overeat. Open, accepting, and full of love.
Age: 30 to 40
Vocal range: Mezzo Soprano/Alto

Harry- Sarah's husband. He is a recovering alcoholic continually falling
off the wagon. Believes the advantages of marriage outweigh the
disadvantages.
Age: 35 to 45
Vocal Range: Baritone

Susan- A delicate southern belle. Peter's wife and ex-wife. Motherly in her
affections towards Robert.
Gender: female
Age: 30 to 40
Vocal range: Soprano

Peter- Susan's husband. The perfect husband and ex-husband. He is very
liberal in his view of relationships.
Age: 30 to 40
Vocal range: Baritone

Jenny-Quietly manipulative, simultaneously square and wise. Loves her
husband, David, and will indulge him from time to time.
Age: 30 to 40
Vocal range: Soprano

David-Jenny's husband, he is relaxed and always in control. Believes a man
should be married and that the sacrifice of freedom is worth what you get
in return.
Age: 30 to 40
Vocal range: Baritone

Amy-A frantic neurotic engaged to Paul but terrified of marriage. After a
mental breakdown, she finally realizes that Paul is, in fact, her soulmate.
Age: 25 to 35
Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano/Alto

Paul- Amy's fiancé. Mildly clingy, but patient to her neurotic nature. He
is fully committed to the idea of marriage and encourages Robert to do the
same.
Age: 30 to 40
Vocal range: Tenor

Joanne-Acerbic, demanding, and blunt. Too old to be part of the young
crowd, but not old enough to be part of the older crowd. Puts on a brassy
front that melts when she is alone with her husband.
Age: 40 to 50
Vocal range:Alto

Larry- Joanne's husband. He is stoic and centered, but has moments of
goofiness. Indulges his wife's behavior but knows when to put his foot down.
Age: 40 to 55
Vocal range: Baritone

Marta- A girlfriend of Robert's. Intensely modern, who is seeking adventure
and excitement in the City.
Age: 20 to 35
Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano

Kathy- An old girlfriend of Robert's, who is now considered a good friend.
She plans to leave the City for a life of domesticity. Sweet and loving.
Age: 20 to 35
Vocal range top: Mezzo-Soprano

April-A girlfriend of Robert's. She is a flight attendant who came to New
York to live in Radio City. Ditzy and adorable.
Age: 20 to 30
Vocal range: Soprano

DIRECTOR
Will C. Crosby -- Originally from Lakewood, Will has worked all over the
Cleveland area as an Actor, Director, and Stage Manager. Most recently Will
was seen as Prince Herbert/ Not-Dead-Fred in Weathervane's production of
Monty Pythons Spamalot. Other notable roles include Smee in Peter and the
Starcatcher (Weathervane), Nicely Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls(Olmstead
Performing Arts), William Barfee in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling
Bee (Huntington Playhouse) and the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz
(CAMEO.) Will worked as the Director of the Garfield Middle School drama
program in Lakewood, as well as directed for this year's 8x10 TheaterFest
at Weathervane. During the day, Will is a Client Service Representative at
Mobile Meals in Akron.
