Workshop Players’ ‘Dearly Beloved’ is chock-full of southern-fried charm

Everything about Workshop Players’ “Dearly Beloved” is inviting.



It starts with the playwrights Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten.  They go by the cute collective “Jones Hope Wooten” in their credits and produce nothing but amiable, ultralight-weight comedies that have quickly become community theater staples, including “The Dixie Swim Club,” “Southern Hospitality,” “The Hallelujah Girls,” “The Red Velvet Cake War” and “Christmas Belles” (recently performed by Workshop Players).  



Every one of their works comes with wonderfully witty dialogue from a quirky ensemble of down-home characters that feature strong women.  And most take place in small towns seeping with southern-fried charm and full of juicy gossip.



Nikolet Hermida is a senior at Cleveland State University majoring in Public Relations/Journalism, whose review is supported by a Civic Engagement grant.
