We are thrilled to announce that Gaby Cook will be teaching in Cleveland November 11th through the 13th. 

Descriptions regarding days, times, content, level, registration, and pricing below, but first, a little about the incomparable, Gaby Cook!

Gaby is a national award-winning dancer who is praised for her dynamic style and choreographic ingenuity. In her 10 years+ of professional experience, she has appeared on stages around the world, and has garnered various film and television credits. She has won first place titles within the swing dance world from events such as International Lindy Hop Championships, Stompology, Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown, Lindy Focus, Lonestar Championships and Balboa Rendezvous. She has also appeared at venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Apollo Theater, The Rainbow Room and Carnegie Hall.

With a solid foundation of studio dance training, she has developed a unique style in lindy hop. She blends the raw, athletic power of lindy hop, with the grace and refinement of the movie musical-era. She brings great care to lines, shapes and balance in her personal performance, as well as her choreographic work. In the classroom, she shares her knowledge of the dance with a cheerful disposition, and clear straight-forward instruction. She is passionate about lindy hop traditions and works to share the joy of swing with new audiences. 

ABCs OF SOLO JAZZ - Friday, November 11th, 8pm-9pm. Lower level of the Lakewood Masonic Temple, 15300 Detroit Avenue. $10 per person. 

If you are new to solo jazz, or looking to refine your movement, join us for the ABC's of Solo Jazz. This class will describe key movements that define the solo jazz genre. This class is beneficial to dancers of all levels. No limit on class size.


PRINCIPLES OF DANCE TECHNIQUE - Saturday, November 12th, 11am-12:15pm. Brecksville Center for the Arts, 8997 Highland Avenue. $20 per person.

Becoming a "good" dancer means more than knowing moves. Good dancing is built off of many key principles of movement and physical control. In this drill-based class, we'll inspect the key factors in dance improvement. These include: balance, posture, rhythm, pulse, strength/looseness and turns/spinning. Topics will apply to both partner and solo dancing. This class is beneficial to dancers of all levels. Class size is limited to the first 30 paid participants. 


RHYTHM RIOT - Saturday, November 12th, 12:20pm - 1:35pm. Brecksville Center for the Arts. $20 per person.

Let's play with rhythm! In this workshop, we'll identify interesting, unique rhythms and see how we can apply them to our dancing. Whether you are leading/following specific rhythm concepts, or creating them for yourself, this class will be a exercise in creativity. This class is beneficial to dancers of all levels. Class size is limited to the first 30 paid participants. 


LUNCH BREAK 1:40-2:40


MUSICALITY & CONNECTION: How to Create Dialogue - Saturday, November 12th, 2:45pm - 5pm. Brecksville Center for the Arts. $30 per person.

When we dance, we are saying something about the music through movement. We can be wild or subdued, technical or expressive. We can respond to the music, or our partner (or both). In this class — let's find ways to connect artistically! Topics that we will cover include: structural musicality, call & response, and partnering. This class is most beneficial to swing dancers of an intermediate to advanced level. Class size is limited to the first 30 paid participants. 


THE GABY GALORE EXPERIENCE! Sunday, November 12th, 2:45pm - 5pm. Brecksville Center for the Arts. $30 per person.

Do you dream of being in a brilliant dance finale from an old black and white film? You can have that team experience as we go through a fast track format of learning choreography, rehearsing, polishing, and performing. We will be covering shape formats, transitions between shapes, and syncronicity. This class is most beneficial to dancers of an intermediate to advanced level who have proficient knowledge of the Shim Sham and the first half of the Big Apple*. (up to the arm lock). This class is open dancers of all genders. Class size is limited to the first 30 paid participants. 

The Lakewood Masonic Temple is located at 15300 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, Ohio. Parking is available in a large lot behind the building. 

The Brecksville Center for the Arts is located at 8997 Highland Drive in Brecksville, Ohio. Parking is available in a small lot next to the building.

Private lessons are a great way to learn from seasoned, experienced dancers. With her wide experience teaching follower technique and variation, Gaby is able to work with followers and leads to provide constructive feedback, technical corrections and insights to spur creative growth.

On Friday, November 11th there is a social dance at the Lakewood Masonic Temple with a beginner-friendly jitterbug dance lesson from 8-9. The True North Big Band will play from 9-12. This dance is $12 per person or $10 for students and seniors with a valid ID. $5 for first time attendees to a Get Hep Swing dance.
