Beck Center and Songs at the Center Present: Songwriting in the Spotlight
Critically Acclaimed Songwriters and Educators Lead Workshops and Performance
Lakewood, OH-Beck Center for the Arts and "Songs at the Center," the Ohio-based TV show that airs across the U.S. on various PBS stations, are pleased to present Songwriting in the Spotlight. This FREE EVENT will take place from 12-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Workshops will be held at Lakewood Catholic Academy located at 14808 Lake Avenue in Lakewood, and the performance will be held in Beck Center's Mackey Theater located at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood.
The day's events include an afternoon of five workshops, held from 12-5 p.m., geared towards the needs of participants. A student and singer-songwriter track for high school and college students and singer-songwriters includes a 'How to Write Comedic Songs and Parodies' workshop among others. An educators and music therapist track includes a 'Music and 21st Century Learning Skills' workshop and more. Workshop leaders feature critically acclaimed songwriters and educators including Anne E. DeChant<https://www.anneedechant.com/>, Jonathan Elliott<http://www.thefloorwalkers.com/>, Peggy Elliott, Eric Gnezda<http://gnezda.com/>, Paul Kovac<http://www.hillbillyidol.com/>, Thor Platter<http://thorplatter.com/>, and Jim Shaw.
The day will culminate in an evening performance at 7 p.m. on the main stage at Beck Center. The performance will feature the talents of workshop leaders and selected workshop participants. There is no cost for audience members to attend the evening performance.

"We are really excited to partner with a nationally syndicated television series," remarked Ed Gallagher, Beck Center's Director of Education. "It's a wonderful way for people in the songwriting community to learn from each other."
