of your interest, and you will receive a reply with further instructions.
The non-singing roles include a variety of types (Thugs, Doctors,
Actresses, Police Commissioners, Reporters, etc.) and age ranges (17 to
65). These roles, like principals, supporting and ensemble, are all
featured as both Hollywood characters and Movie characters.

*About The Show*

CITY OF ANGELS is the rarest of Musical Comedies; one that is not only
loaded with music and written in the contemporary jazz idiom, but also
filled with sidesplitting comedy (Book by Larry Gelbart---TV's "*Mash*" and
"Broadway's "*A Funny Thing Happened On The* *Way To The Forum*"). Set in
the glamorous, seductive Hollywood of the 1940's, the world of film studios
and flimsy negligees, the show chronicles the misadventures of Stine, a
young novelist, attempting a screenplay for movie producer/director Buddy
Fidler. While Fidler professes to be a fan of Stine's work: ("I've read a
synopsis of every book you've ever written"), Fidler's gargantuan ego
forces Stine to make endless compromises in the script he's writing. The
script is an adaptation of one of Stine's novels which features his Raymond
Chandler-esque hero...a private investigator named Stone. Every movie scene
that Stine writes is acted out onstage by a group of characters whose
costumes are limited to various shades of black and white. The same is true
of sets and props in the Film Noir depiction. With music scored in the
genre, we are, in fact, treated to a live version of a 1940's private eye
film. It's a tale of decadence and homicide with a liberal sprinkling of
the best femmes fatale in Broadway history.

*Awards*

6 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Score, Book, Set Design, Actor and Featured
Actress.

9 Drama Desk Awards for Musical, Book, Score, Lyrics, Set Design,
Orchestration, Actor and Features Actors.

3 Outer Critic Circle Awards for Broadway Musical; Director; and
Set/Costume/Lighting Designs.

The New York Drama Critic's Circle Award for Best Musical.

*Ensemble* is a mix of singing and non-singing roles, with many speaking
roles included! A great show for character actors of all types!!! This is
an unusual musical because it does not rely on the typical large Chorus
Dance/Production Numbers, but instead, this Ensemble shines more in the
scene work.

Please contact Scott Spence at scottdavidspence at gmail.com if you have any
questions that are not answered in this audition posting. Otherwise, we
look forward to seeing you at auditions for this amazing musical!
