announces auditions for:

"Kiss Me, Kate" (the 1999 Revival)

Director:  David Malinowski
Musical Director:  Chris Bott

Combine Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew" with Porter's music and lyrics to get Kiss Me, Kate- an instant success with every cast and audience. This is a play-within-a-play where each cast member's on-stage life is complicated by what is happening offstage. Musical numbers include Why Can't You Behave, So In Love, Wunderbar, Tom, Dick or Harry, Were Thine That Special Face, From This Moment On, Too Darn Hot, Brush Up Your Shakespeare, I Hate Men, Always True to You (In My Fashion) and Another Op'nin', Another Show. Monday & Tuesday, March 27 & 28, 2017 - 6:30 pm
Callbacks by invitation only: Thursday, March 30, 2017

Performance Dates:
June 9 - 25, 2017
Fridays/Saturdays 7:30 pm; Sunday matinees 2:00 pm in the Corning Auditorium.
NOTE:  There will be a 1:00 senior matinee on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.


Requirements & Preparation:
·       Appointments Needed.  Call Ann Hedger at 440-951-7500 x103.  5 minute timeslots.
·       Prepare 32 bars of a ballad or up tempo song (Not from Kiss Me, Kate).
·       An accompanist will play for all auditioners.  Acapella auditions discouraged.
·       Be prepared to possibly read from the script.
·       Bring a headshot or snapshot of yourself to attach to our paperwork.

Casting Information:
Cast of 25 men and women-ages 15-adult (all roles are available)
The Fine Arts Association supports non-traditional casting.
No AEA contracts available for this production.


Roles available:
Principals:

Fred Graham (Petruchio) - 30-50, strong baritone, commanding presence. He is the actor/director/producer of the play-within-the-play, also Lilli's ex-husband.
Lilli Vanessi (Katherine) - 30-50, strong mezzo soprano. She is an actress of the stage and screen, proud, haughty, and also vulnerable.
Lois Lane (Bianca) - 20-30, strong mezzo belter. The quintessential ingénue but with lots of charisma and charm. Bill Calhoun (Lucentio) - 20-30, strong tenor/baritone. Should move well. He is a ne'er-do-well actor with a bit of a gambling problem.
1st & 2nd Man - 30-50, comic baritone. Archetypical gangsters complete with accent. "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" is their show-stopping number.
Gremio & Hortensio - 20-30, tenor/baritone. Featured singers and dancers.
Supports
Harrison Howell - 50-60, career military type.
Harry Trevor (Baptista) - 50+, a veteran character actor.
Paul - 20-40, tenor/baritone. Lead soloist and dancer in "Too Darn Hot".
Hattie - 20-40, mezzo. Featured soloist and dancer.
Ensemble
Looking for strong singer/dancers. There are many featured singing and dancing solos throughout the production. Also, many opportunities for spoken dialogue and featured roles.
